A Minna High Court has issued an interim order restraining Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago and five other defendants from accessing a farmland belonging to one Bello Wakili and nine family members in the state.
The court’s decision, made in case number NSHC/MN/215/2025, will remain in effect pending the resolution of the legal dispute.
The plaintiffs who were represented by their counsel, Solomon Ogbeche are seeking protection of their farmland situated near Tagwai Dam in the Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State.
The defendants in the case include the Niger State government, the Niger State Ministry of Lands, the Commissioner for Lands in Niger State, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Niger State as well as Niger Foods Limited.
In his ruling, Justice Mohammed Mohammed ordered the defendants to refrain from any work on the disputed land until the final determination of the case.
However, despite this court order, allegations have emerged that the defendants have ignored the ruling.
Hence, the plaintiffs’ counsel, Ogbeche filed a contempt motion against the defendants, asking that they be held in correctional custody for disobeying the court order.
The case has been adjourned to October 6, 2025, for further hearing on the motion.
