The Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has presented a budget proposal of 109.85billion naira before the State House of Assembly.

The Budget tagged ‘ Budget of Providence’ is aimed at rebuilding and stabilizing the economy of Osun post-Coronavirus era.

He said the major focus of the budget is on infrastructure, education, youth development, healthcare, agriculture among other critical sectors.

Presenting the Budget on Tuesday,the Governor said the 2021 proposed budget contains a recurrent expenditure of N50.62bn (46%) while a total of N59.23bn (54%) is earmarked for capital expenditure.

The breakdown of the budget indicated that the education and health sectors got substantial shares as N10.7billion representing 18.08 percent was allocated for education sector while health sector received N10.65billion representing 17.98 percent.

Similarly, N4.27 billion representing 7.21 percent was earmarked for infrastructure sector while Water and Sanitation sector got N4.22billion

Similarly agricultural sector gets of N3,405billion representing 5.75 percent while N1,134billion representing 1.91 percent while for Commence and Industry sector; N1,515,122,570.00 representing 2.56 percent for Governance and Administration; N173,035,800.00 representing 0.29 percent for Economic Planning and Budget sector; N167,247,560.00 representing 0.28 percent for Environment sector; and N638,460,000.00 representing 1.08 percent for Social Development and Welfare sector.

Also, N1, 487,110,159.00, representing 2 percent of the total budget has been earmarked for youth related activities.

Furthermore, N134,379,500.00 representing 0.23 percent was budgeted for Security Justice sector and N155,830,830.00 representing 0.62 percent for Information and Communication sector

Oyetola noted In the current fiscal year, his administration embarked on massive infrastructural devt. which centres on citizens needs assessment.

He said ” We’ll keep up with this drive in 2021. Considering the heavy traffic, frequent accidents and the need to protect lives, we shall construct a Flyover Bridge at the Olaiya Junction, Osogbo.’

“The proposed Flyover he said is a 4–Span Bridge which has a total span length of 60m with each being 15metres. It has 196 meters approach ramp from Fakunle end, while that of MDS approach ramp is 99.95m, totalling 295.95m length of approach ramp. The total length of the Flyover Bridge is 335m.

” In view of the role of our young people in Osun’s economic diversification agenda, we shall further involve them in the State’s socio-economic activities. Thus, we’re poised to vigorously promote the Youth Export Devt. Program (YEXDEP) to enhance Osun’s youth contributions to the nation’s non-oil export sub-sector.’

In the proposed 2021 budget, the said gobweku earmarked the sum of N1.48b for youth related activities which shall cover various youth empowerment programmes, Osun Micro credit revolving loan, Business support service credit scheme to artisans, entrepreneurship development programs, among others.
