Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed the immediate reinstatement of all Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, staff who were dismissed in March 2023.
Recall that the affected employees, primarily members of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU), were terminated by the now-defunct Special Intervention Team (SIT) under former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
The lecturers were reportedly dismissed due to their protests over unpaid salaries and outstanding entitlements.
Announcing their reinstatement in a statement on Monday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor emphasised the commitment of Governor Okpebholo’s administration to justice and fairness.
He described the recall as Okpebholo’s significant step toward correcting the injustices of the past and upholding the principles of natural justice, equity and good conscience.
“The Government of Senator Monday Okpebholo believes in the principles of natural justice, equity, and good conscience, and will not hesitate to address any injustice meted out to citizens of Edo State.
“This reinstatement, therefore, is to demonstrate His Excellency’s avowed commitment and adherence to the rule of law in governance at all times,” Ikhilor said.
