Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has urged religious leaders to continue to pray for leaders in the Country to provide effective leadership and for the people to have patience and tolerance to ensure peace in the nation.

Governor Sani Bello made the call at the 5th Memorial Anniversary of the late Emir of Borgu Emirate, HRH Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III, in New Bussa.

The Governor explained that the country requires peace for rapid growth and development pointing out that dialogue brings about the desired development.

“There is nothing better than peace. Anything you cant get through dialogue, you can’t get it through conflict”, the Governor said.

He said the numerous challenges confronting Niger State in particular and Nigeria in general calls for prayers, effective leadership, and understanding on the part of citizens.

According to him, banditry and kidnapping have caused untold hardship and hindered development in some Local Governments in the State pointing out that the development of Kainji National Park in the Emirate for tourism has suffered setbacks due to the activities of bandits

He however acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in safeguarding lives and property and appealed for calm amongst the citizens.

The Governor eulogized the legacies and good virtues of the late Emir and prayed for the repose of his soul.

“The late Emir was someone that we cherished, he lived a good life for all,
he was a wonderful person, committed and dedicated”, he said.

He also commended the present Emir of Borgu Emirate for upholding the good policies of the late Emir and promised to support the Emirate to ensure its development.

The Emir of Borgu Emirate, HRH Barr. Muhammad Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro IV said the late Emir was dedicated and passionate about the development of the Emirate, the State, and Nigeria as a whole hence he is worthy to be remembered.

The late Emir Haliru Dantoro died on 30th October 2015.

Highlights of the event were a special prayer session at the Gbemusu Emir Palace, New Bussa, gravesite, and Jummah prayer at the New Bussa Central Mosque as well as commissioning of Haliru Dantoro Conference Hall by the Governor.
