The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, as part of efforts to monitor and address cyber-related activities.
The Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team disclosed in a statement published on the police’s official website on Wednesday.
Although the statement confirmed the arrest, it did not disclose the specific allegations against Eshun or the precise nature of the conduct under investigation.
“The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Evans Eshun, also known as Ebo Noah, by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team.
“The arrest was carried out as part of ongoing police efforts to monitor and address cyber-related activities, particularly in the period leading up to 31st night religious services,” the statement read.
The statement follows widespread speculation that the arrest was linked to recent warnings from security agencies against public prophecies or declarations that could incite fear, panic, or public disorder.
Ebo Noah gained viral attention after constructing a massive wooden ark and predicting an apocalyptic flood starting on December 25.
He claimed the ark, dubbed the Ebo Noah Ark, was built under divine instruction, warning of a catastrophic three-year rainfall unless the public repented.
However, in a video released last week, the cleric said the disaster was averted after he received a new revelation following days of fasting and prayers. He claimed the vision showed the ark was overfilled and that God granted an extension to build more arks.
According to the police, Eshun remains in custody to assist with investigations. No formal charges, bail terms, or court dates have been announced.
The statement added, “Police sources say Evans Eshun is currently in custody to assist with investigations. Authorities have not announced any formal charges, court dates, or bail conditions.”
The Ghana Police Service urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, affirming that any legal action would follow due process and that Eshun remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
