Former Special Adviser on Media to ex-Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Yakasai announced the move on his verified social media accounts on Monday, describing it as a “new journey” in his political career.

He confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to the APC and completed his registration with the ADC.

“After consultations with family, friends, and fellow political associates, we have decided to join the ADC, a new journey! I have already submitted my resignation letter to the APC and registered with our new party, the ADC,” he said.

He encouraged his supporters to take advantage of the ADC’s online registration platform, noting that membership cards could now be obtained quickly online.

Expressing optimism about the party’s future, Yakasai prayed for divine guidance and success, saying, “We pray to Almighty God that this decision will be for the best, that the ADC will form governments across the country, and that it will bring blessings to all Nigerians.”

Yakasai’s political career has been marked by bold decisions and controversies. In 2021, he was suspended and later dismissed as Ganduje’s media adviser after openly criticizing the federal government’s handling of insecurity, a stance that earned him both admiration and criticism.

After leaving government, he joined the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and contested the 2023 Kano State governorship election.

He later resigned from the PRP and rejoined the APC, a move that surprised many political observers
