Ekiti- born foremost Nigerian architect, Chief Isaac Fola Alade, OFR, has died.
Alade who designed and built the National Stadium Lagos, Tafawa Balewa Square(TBS), Federal Secretariat Lagos, Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies building, Kuru, Plateau State and several other iconic buildings died on Friday at the age of 87.
His demise was announced in a statement by his family in the early hours of Saturday.
The statement read, “With immense gratitude to God for his faithfulness, our family announces the peaceful transition to glory of our dear father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, Chief (Arc.) Isaac Fola Alade, OFR, on Friday.
“In total submission to his perfect will, we thank God for the exemplary life and sincerely appreciate you all for your unrelenting prayers, support in diverse ways and particularly your show of love to him all his life.
“The funeral details will be announced later, we kindly request that you continue to remember us in your prayers.”
He was born on November 24, 1933 at Aramoko Ekiti.
He attended St Phillips Elementary School, Aramoko Ekiti, and Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti for his secondary education.
In 1961, he graduated from the Nigerian College of Arts & Sciences and Technology Zaria (now Ahmadu Bello University) as one of the first four pioneer Architecture graduates.
Thereafter, he completed his post-graduate studies at the Architectural Association School of Tropical Studies, London in 1965, on a Commonwealth Scholarship.
Isaac fola Alade won the “Atlas Award” for the best academic performance in the Inter. R.I.B.A exams in 1958.
He enrolled as a U.K. Chartered Architect after his R.I.B.A finals in Oct 1961, became an associate of the R.I.B.A and ARCUK in 1963.
