Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has submitted a N61billion supplementary budget to the State House of Assembly to tackle the massive damage caused by recent floods across the state.
This amendment will increase the state’s 2024 budget from N358.7 billion to N419.7 billion.
The Speaker, Abdulkarim Lawan, presented the governor’s request during Friday’s plenary session.
The proposed funds are aimed at reconstructing key infrastructure—roads, bridges, and hospitals—destroyed by the September 10 floods, which displaced about two million residents and submerged thousands of homes.
The supplementary budget also allocates resources for emergency relief, agricultural recovery, humanitarian aid, and environmental restoration.
Lawan extended the Assembly’s sympathy to flood victims and praised local and international organizations, medical teams, and security agencies for their support in alleviating the crisis.
After inspecting the damage, Zulum stressed the urgency of the intervention, noting that swift action is critical to restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
