The Special Adviser on Political Matters to Niger State Governor, Mohammed Nma Kolo, says the recent approval of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC to fix 21 Federal Roads across the country is a manifestation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s good intention in solving the infrastructural deficit in the country.
Kolo said this in a statement made available to journalists in Minna, Niger State capital, on Sunday.
Buhari had on October 28 given the approval for the NNPC to fix the roads during the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The NNPC will spend N621.2 billion in fixing the roads, nine of which linked or are within Niger State.
Tanker Drivers had several times shut down Minna-Bida and Lambata-Lapai-Bida roads within the state, in their protests over the bad condition of the roads.
These roads are now part of the 21 roads to be fixed by the NNPC.
“These roads have indeed been overstretched by the continuous movement of heavy-duty trucks used for haulage from different parts of the country and Niger being central has suffered a great loss of her roads,” Kolo said.
While commending the Federal Government on the successes recorded in resolving the security challenges and the recent launch of the eNaira, the governor’s aide called on the President to redeem his campaign promises to the people of the state during the 2019 elections.
Some of the promises, Kolo said is The commencement of activities at Baro Port
and construction of railway from Abuja to Minna.
He said the construction of railway would reduce the burden that the federal capital has put on the state, while
activities at the Baro Port would boost the commercial activities in the area and provide employment for the teaming youth of the state.
