The Federal Government has signed a $328,818,916.99 Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC&F) contract with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for the construction and rehabilitation of power transmission lines.
Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, described the deal as a major milestone in implementing Phase I of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), aimed at enhancing grid efficiency and reducing stranded capacity.
The contract includes the construction of 330kV and 132kV transmission lines, spanning 544km and comprising seven brownfield and 10 greenfield lines.
The project has a load capacity of 7,140MW and is strategically divided into two phases.
Adelabu said the infrastructure would act as vital channels for increased power supply from midstream transmission projects to homes, businesses, and industries.
He emphasised that the deal complements ongoing transmission enhancements, with a “holistic vision” of power generation to last-mile distribution.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost electricity reliability and accessibility for millions, stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and improve living standards across the country.
