Borno State Police Command has successfully recovered an unexploded ordnance, UXO, in Maiduguri, averting a potential explosion and threat to public safety.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso, disclosed the development in a statement on Monday, saying the device was discovered beneath a network mast at Chuskon, Federal Low Cost Area, around 11:06 a.m.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the Commander of the EOD-CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri to mobilize immediately,” the statement read.

“The team cordoned off the area and, following standard procedures, successfully rendered the device safe.”

Preliminary assessment indicated that the UXO, with two protruding wires, appeared to have been strategically placed to cause significant damage. Investigators also recovered a hand plier, a T-shirt, and a pair of shoes at the scene.

Following the operation, the police conducted safety awareness sessions for community members, urging vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious objects.

The Commissioner of Police has also instructed all Divisional Police Officers across the state to intensify patrols and protect critical infrastructure, particularly communication facilities.

The Borno State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while investigations into the incident continue. Normal activities have since resumed in the area.
