A 15-year-old girl identified as Happy David has been arraigned and charged to court for allegedly beating an 85-year-old woman, Gama Jatau, to death in Adamawa state.
She was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yola, which ordered that she be remanded.
The girl, allegedly armed herself with a stick, stormed the residence of the woman and beat her up on accusation of witchcraft.
The girl allegedly claimed that the old woman, Gama Jatau of Tambo community in Girei Local Government Area, bewitched her and caused her sickness on several occasions.
The girl who lives in the same neighbourhood as the aged woman said she chose the act to teach the woman a lesson.
The victim was rushed to hospital in Jabbi Lamba in the Girei LGA where she was pronounced dead.
The accused who confessed to beating the deceased to death was arraigned on a charge of murder before Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Muhammed Digil, to whom she pleaded guilty.
After the guilt plea, the prosecutor applied for the adjournment of the matter, and the court adjourned it to next month, May 26.
