A stakeholders meeting between the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Mai Mala-Buni and all aggrieved party members in the Oyo State chapter, is to hold at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja today.
This followed the controversial state congress held last Saturday that produced Isaac Omodewu as the new state chairman.
In a telephone chat, yesterday, the out-going State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr. Akin Oke, dismissed the insinuation that the party would hold another state congress on Saturday, November 6, 2021, as it is currently being circulated in the news.
He also told reporters to disregard the statement credited to the Chairman, Congress Committee of the state, Gambo Lawan, who dispelled a rumour that the CECPC has cancelled the last Saturday’s exercise.
Oke said the true position of things would be known after today’s meeting with Mala-Buni, saying, as I speak with you, we are all on our way to Abuja to meet with the CECPC.
He said: “The CECPC has summoned all the tendencies in Oyo, including Senator Teslim Folarin, former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala and the Unity Forum members for a stakeholders’ meeting to resolve the issues in the Oyo APC. It is not true that the state congress has been cancelled or is there any iota of truth that another congress is coming on Saturday. The whole issue would be resolved after today’s meeting with Buni.”
Lawan had in a statement, yesterday, said the national body of the party only called for reconciliation among the warring parties, thus inviting all stakeholders, leaders and gladiators to a meeting today (Thursday).
Also in a statement, Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, appreciated the CECPC chairman over his commitment to ensuring that the Oyo State Chapter remains united.
Dare, who reiterated the commitment of the national secretariat to the November 6, 2021, scheduled date for the state congress, noted that the CECPC was committed to resolving the controversies surrounding the delegate lists for the state congress.
