The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to combat insecurity in the country through regular training in collaboration and synergy with other security agencies.
Lieutenant General Yahaya stated this during his closing remarks at the end of Inter Division Combat Company Obstacle Crossing Competition 2022 hosted by 2 Division Nigerian Army.
The COAS, represented by the Commander Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Major General Adeyemi Alabi commended the zeal exhibited by the competitors throughout the competition which indicates that the aim and objective have been achieved and also noted that the competition had brought realism and relevance to the training.
He pointed out that the Nigerian Army have been in the forefront of combating insurgency, terrorism, armed banditry and other security challenges bedeviling the country.
The COAS opined that experience garnered during the competition will be of great importance as it has sharpened their soldering skills, built their physical endurance and team work amongst others.
Gen Faruk urged both the winning and loosing formations not to relent but to take away the valid lessons learned during the competition to improve in their performance in future competitions and also not to rest on their oars, but strife to build on the standard already achieved.
At the end of the competition, 2 Division Nigerian Army emerged overall best formation with 986 points in the returning time of twenty minutes nineteen seconds, Army Headquarters Garrison came second with 903 points in twenty three minutes fifty four seconds, while 6 Division was third with 850 points in twenty four minutes fifteen seconds. 3, 81, 1 and 82 Divisions came fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of medals and trophies to individuals and formations.
In the individual category, best female individual timing award goes to Private Grace Isaac of 2 Division, second position went to Private Ezeamaka Adaeze of AHQ Garrison, while third position goes to Private Yakubu Justina of 6 Division.
The best male individual category goes to Private Gideon Friday of 2 Division, while second and third position went to Private Odeyemi Seun of 3 Division and Private Sani Mohammed of Army Headquarters Garrison.
