Renowned chess master, Tunde Onakoya, has set the new Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, surpassing the previous record.
The previous Guinness World Record record was 56-hour, 9-minute mark.
It was set by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad in 2018
Onakoya on his X account in the early hours of Saturday crossed his 58-hour target announcing that he is pushing to 60hrs.
Sharing a photo with the record broken inscribed on it, Onakoya wrote, “We have done it.”
“We’re pushing to 60 hours, guys. We’re not stopping yet. Let’s keep going.
“We have a fundraising goal to meet for the education of African children around the world. This is our why – the reason we are doing this.
“Let’s demonstrate to the world the incredible power of love. Together, we can make this happen.”
The 29-yr old chess master began the contest at 10am on Wednesday, April 17, and ended at about 2:30 am on April 20.
Several celebrities, politician, and Nigerians in the diaspora, have drummed support for Tunde with their presence at New York City’s iconic Times Square where the contest was held.
