Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara who has been at loggerheads with the State House of Assembly paid an unscheduled visit to the Assembly Quarters on Thursday, May 9.

The quarters serve as the official residence for the 32 legislators of the state and house the temporary chambers of the (Pro-Nyesom Wike) Martin Amaewhule-led state Assembly since the demolition of the main assembly building.

Alongside heavy security, Governor Fubara briefly toured the premises before departing to inspect the Emohua-Kalabari road, slated for inauguration as part of his upcoming first-anniversary celebrations next week.

However, the Governor did not speak on his purpose of visit to the facility before departing for inspection of a road project.

But Nelson Chukwudi the Chief Press Secretary CPS to Governor in a statement issued later quoted Fubara as explaining that his visit to the residential quarters of the State House of Assembly is to undertake on-the-spot assessment of condition of the structures for a possible rehabilitation work to restore its status and make livable.

Governor Fubara gave the explanation after he inspecting the 15.24 kilometers long Emohua – Abalama -Tema Junction dual carriageway road project on Thursday.

The Governor said: “Is the Assembly quarters not part of my property? Is there anything wrong in going to check how things are going on there?

“You are aware of the developments. We have a new Speaker, and I went there to see for my myself how things are. There might be a few things I might want to do there for the good of our people.”
