President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio has called for unity among the leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South-South geo-political zone.
Akpabio made the call while receiving APC State chairmen from the South-South region in Abuja on Sunday.
The Senate President implored them to work harder so that the visibility of the party in the region will grow from one state to more states.
Akpabio acknowledged challenges being faced by the chairmen, promising that a stakeholders meeting would be convened in no distant time with political officer holders from the zone to chat a way forward.
He said: “In the days ahead, a meeting of critical stakeholders, comprising state chairmen, National Assembly members, ministers and other appointees from the region, would be convened to work out modalities to support the party at various state chapters, as a way of engendering unity and understanding, amongst all party members to foster social cohesion between the party and elected/ appointed officials in government.”
He assured party leaders that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will ensure economic prosperity in the nation.
Akpabio used the opportunity to appreciate Tinubu for the Lagos/Calabar coastal road, describing it as visionary.
