American singer, Akon was briefly arrested in Georgia after authorities discovered he was wanted on an out-of-county warrant issued in Roswell, New Mexico, officials confirmed.

The 52-year-old artist, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by Chamblee Police on the morning of November 7 after his white Tesla triggered a Flock security camera alert linked to the warrant.

According to the police report, Officer Joshua Rosa located Akon near a Tint World shop on Chamblee Dunwoody Road. After verifying his identity, officers placed him under arrest. The “Locked Up” singer reportedly remained calm and cooperative, acknowledging that he was aware of the warrant.

A search of Akon turned up no weapons or contraband. He was transferred to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was booked and released roughly six hours later.

While details surrounding the Roswell warrant remain unclear, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed both the arrest and release to TMZ, which also published Akon’s mugshot showing him in a black hoodie with a neutral expression.

Akon rose to global fame in the early 2000s with chart-topping hits including Locked Up, Lonely, and Smack That.

In recent years, he has shifted his focus toward business and philanthropy, spearheading initiatives like Akon Lighting Africa, which provides solar energy to rural communities, and the ambitious Akon City project in Senegal, a planned, futuristic metropolis powered by cryptocurrency and inspired by Black Panther’s Wakanda.

As of now, Akon’s representatives have not issued a public statement regarding the arrest or the underlying warrant.
