Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reiterated government’s commitment to deal with the menace of Gender Based Violence ( GBV) in the state.
The Governor stated this while playing host to a delegation of United Nation Fund for Population Activities UNFPA, led by the country representative Mrs. Ulla Elizabeth Mueller, and Mrs. Christen Esther, Representative from Government of Switzerland in his office at Government House.
The Governor said that he has directed the Ministry of Women Affairs through the Ministry of Justice to deal significantly with issues and cases of GBV.
He added that the Government has taken measures to bring perpetrators of GBV to serve the wrath of Law and to serve as a deterrent to others and radically reduce the danger of GBV.
Governor Umaru Fintiri solicited the support of the UNFPA to help Government strengthen existing laws that will deal with the menace of GBV in Adamawa State.
He expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the UNFPA in all its activities and acknowledged the organization for its various interventions in the state.
The Country Representative of UNFPA Mrs. Ulla Elizabeth explained that the Forensic Laboratory commissioned by the organization at the Modibbo Adamawa University of Technology, Yola was to deal with the menace of GBV.
Mrs. Ulla applauded Governor Fintiri led Administration for ensuring rapid development of the State and urged him to maintain the spirit and support to the activities of UNFPA.
