Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, has disbanded the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, Unit and the Command’s Special Squad, CSS.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Umuahia, the state capital.
The Command established a newly trained, tactical, and professional unit known as the Scorpion Squad.
Chinaka said the Scorpion Squad will be commanded by SP Ibe Daniel, with DSP Eze Augustine appointed as the unit’s deputy commander.
According to her, the decision was part of efforts to ensure compliance with the rule of law and to promote a professional police force in Abia.
The police image maker noted that the move is aimed at equipping operational arms with necessary skills to effectively combat crime and criminality across the state.
While addressing the Scorpion Squad, Isa emphasized the importance of professionalism, tact, and adherence to all rules of engagement during operations.
The Commissioner ordered that all operations be intelligence-led and that officers strictly follow the command’s dress code for easy identification and accountability.
The CP warned that misconduct which tarnishes the image of the force would not be tolerated and will attract appropriate disciplinary measures.
The state police boss also tasked the Scorpion Squad with taking decisive action against violent crimes and reducing criminal threats across Abia to the barest minimum.
