Former President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said he is in deep shock following the death of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing the news as a devastating personal and collective loss.
Jonathan, in an emotional tribute issued by his Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, said he received the news with deep shock, noting that Senator Ewhrudjakpo was not only a devoted public servant but a true patriot who served Bayelsa and Nigeria with uncommon loyalty.
He praised the late Deputy Governor’s unwavering passion for public service, recalling how Ewhrudjakpo earned admiration throughout his career.
Jonathan highlighted his diligence, intellectual depth and lifelong pursuit of knowledge, qualities he said distinguished him in every office he occupied.
“From his service as Commissioner, to the Senate, and later as Deputy Governor, Senator Ewhrudjakpo was known for his depth, insightful grasp of governance, eloquence, and warm sense of humour,” Jonathan said.
The former President described Ewhrudjakpo’s passing as a profound blow to the Government and people of Bayelsa, as well as to his family and colleagues who worked closely with him.
He said the late Deputy Governor would be remembered for his forthrightness, dedication to duty and steadfast commitment to the development of Bayelsa State.
Jonathan extended his condolences to the Ewhrudjakpo family and the Bayelsa State Government, urging them to take solace in the impactful life of service the late Deputy Governor lived.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s soul.
